The word "Deacon" means "one who serves." Deacons were highly regarded and carefully selected. The qualifications to serve are found in 1 Timothy 3:8-13. The Deacons are selected to assist the Pastor in ministry to meet the needs of the flock. Deacons should pray for, visit, encourage, counsel and be a spiritual model of Christlikeness to the congregation.

The Elders of Big Valley Bible Church are godly men, who are sound in the faith and who have a record of faithful service. They meet regularly with the Pastor to advise and give assistance in matters of discipline and spiritual oversight of the church.
Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
